People who receive a medical diagnosis often ask, "Can it be cured?". When I asked this about bipolar, I was told it was not the right question. It took me a few years to realise the acceptable question in this part of the world is something like,
Having some answers to these questions helped me a little. Then I started to wonder what it was that I was recovering from and why would I want a 'normal' life whatever that might be?
Mental health professionals increasingly talk about 'recovery' from all types mental health diagnoses. Many now recognise the phrase, 'bipolar recovery', but can anyone really say what this means?
I have talked with experts treating people with bipolar who believe that keeping people in recovery is about avoiding relapses and minimising the damage the disorder causes.
I have talked with experts who themselves have been diagnosed and believe there are ways in which to make more than a full recovery and lead more effective meaningful lives having experienced bipolar disorder.

In 2006 I decided my training business would be about "Making Bipolar Recovery A Reality". Was this a realistic aim or just a fantasy?
I feel that things have moved on a lot in past 4 years. It is time I did my bit in explaining bipolar recovery.
